Adam Parry's vision for Bahlsen's new packaging launch, was to create a series of motion films that emphasized each biscuit's form, texture, and color through a minimalist, design-driven approach. The creative vision centered on stripping back surrounding elements, using only abstracted shapes and motion to frame and compliment the biscuit.
This project came with some interesting challenges, not least because I was a recovering biscuit addict but also as the entire team was external. This naturally required me to step in as lead designer. I had an initial task of onboarding a team of freelancers and also to set up and lead them to success through The Mill's design pipeline. I also played a role in splitting out tasks, assisting in creative and technical problem-solving along with working on one of the edits and figuring out a scalable packshot reveal for each of the differently shaped packs. We were put on to a great start by an enormous amount of styleframes (over 400) and exploration done by the amazing Santi Zoraidez. Probably the most amount of styleframes supplied by one artist, for a project at The Mill at that time. It was then up to myself and the team to reduce those down into a four short but compelling edits, designing the all important motion and adjustments to lighting and shading. The result was four visually consistent motion films, using the crisp physicality of the card from the new packaging to tie them together whilst retaining each biscuit's unique expression and visual appeal.
